Before affixing a dashboard camera, there are several features that are presently available you might want to consider.  A good dash camera will record video as well as sound, both inside and outside the vehicle.

Helpful features include:

1. Loop recording – A dash cam isn’t worth a thing if the video is not properly stored for later retrieval.  It’s a really good idea to get a camera with Loop Recording.  That allows the camera to automatically overwrite the memory card. You do not need to manually delete old, useless footage, clearing up space for new dashcam footage.
2. High Resolution (Hi-Res) – Purchase a camera that records 30 frames per second, and 1080p High Definition (HD) and 12 Megapixel (MP) resolution.  With high resolution, the recording will be much higher quality and may record readable license plates, traffic lights, road signs and other valuable details relevant to negligence claims for a car accident.
3. Night Recording – Accidents don’t always take place during daylight hours.  In fact, many accidents are caused by poor lighting and decreased visibility.  Cameras can record what the human eye cannot see.  Night recording footage of license plates may actually exceed your ability to see plate numbers.  It also can help distinguish between similar make and model numbers of vehicles.
